To the northwest of Misery Square lies a mysterious building known as the Opera Abandoned. A large, foreboding structure, the Opera mirrors a famous opera found in many Earth-based worlds—but perhaps slightly more gothic, with a lonely feeling to fit its name. They say that many years ago the building had fallen into disrepair—hence the name—but residents with a love for the arts have worked hard to restore some of its former glory. In fact, many of these residents now call the Opera their home.
Inside the Opera are impressive rooms made to accommodate attendees to various performances. There are halls filled with artwork, and a huge grand staircase near the theatre itself. The massive stage is large enough for any production, and the seating can hold an audience of hundreds.
In one of the large halls resides a gallery of Destruction’s artwork. Open to the public, it offers residents a chance to see this artist’s interesting work, as well as the architecture of the Opera Abandoned itself.
Away from the grandeur of the main part of the Opera lies a more domestic area. Mostly comprised of the living quarters where performers normally would stay, this is the place where the Opera residents live. Old dorms have been converted into a large number of rooms that can be used as fairly large, comfortable bedrooms.
This area also contains a few large sitting rooms, a kitchen large enough to serve the residents, and a spacious dining room. The residents who live here are mostly those who either come from an age outside of the technological hustle and bustle of the City, or those who have a love of the arts, but anyone who earns their trust is invited to stay.
At the end of the resident’s quarters lies a door that leads to the Opera gardens. Although not very large, the garden is a pleasant place to spend some time when the weather is agreeable. There’s several trees and a few small flowerbeds. In one corner of the garden is a fountain, not extravagant but large enough that a duck could swim in it.
Although several people live in the Opera, it seems that no one knows all about it. There are numerous secret paths and doorways, storage rooms full of mysterious items, and even a large basement with a secret entrance to the Underground. If anyone knows the purpose behind these things, they have yet to reveal them.
Anyone who is interested in using the Opera for a performance is encouraged to contact the residents with their request.
[major thanks to all of the Opera residents, particularly freakyfanboy]
